Without Reason

Without Reason. Elliott emailed me to tell me about a great limited edition art book he’s self-published called Without Reason (in association with China Heights Gallery.) Featuring the work of some great artists, Without Reason is “a limited edition art book dedicated to the roots and lifestyle of street culture, capturing the works of graffiti artists, painters, designers, illustrators, photographers and tattoo artists from Australia, America, Canada and the UK.”

There are only 1000 copies available, so nip over to Without Reason to buy your copy online today.

Colourful Bookcases

I know, I know, I’m playing catch-up with the internet on this one! Everybody who has ever used the internet has probably seen this design trend of arranging your book spines according to colour by now, but I still love it. Normally, I try and stay away from items that are already doing the rounds on other blogs because I figure that the world doesn’t need 50 design orientated blogs all publishing the same material, but on this occassion the design trend is so effective (and also cheap) that I can’t help myself.

There’s no point in me rehashing what people like Style Files and Magpie & Cake have already said, so you go and find out more on those great sites.

However, if you’re looking for a cheap design tip, this one’s a peach!

Domus 1928–1999

Dear Santa… I know it’s horrifically expensive, but I really want Taschen’s Domus 1928 - 1999 books.

TASCHEN’s twelve-volume reprint features selected highlights from the years 1928 to 1999. Reproducing the pages as they originally appeared, each volume is packed with articles that bring to light the incredible history of modern design and architecture.

My Penguin. November 29, 2006

My Penguin

Perfect for giving as a gift if you’re creative. The book publisher Penguin have come up with a great idea for allowing people to customise their own books.

When we decide whether or not to buy a book, cover design is always the most important thing. Despite this, we’d like to introduce you to a new series of books called My Penguin.

We’re throwing open six of our favourite Classics by publishing them with naked front covers and we’d really love for you to be involved - and to have as good a time coming up with covers as we’ve had in putting the series together.

You’re encouraged to draw, paint, stencil or whatever on the covers in order to make it your own, and make it unique. If you’re a designer, or an illustrator, this is a perfect opportunity to give your loved ones a really special personalised christmas present.

Ugly Bogus. November 8, 2006

UglyBogus

I love screen-printed posters, and UglyBogus have done some corkers! They’ve done some great concert posters for artists like The Futureheads and Seu Jorge, but what I’m really crazy about is their hand-written typeface work on the Tilly and the Wall poster and the Do it for the chicks poster (Which I’d totally buy if the “purchase” button actually went anywhere! — Note to UglyBogus: Sort it out!)

Check out all the great work at UglyBogus.

Penguin Limited Edition Classics. November 6, 2006

Penguin Limited Edition Classics.

Highly collectable. Limited numbered edition of 1000. To celebrate Penguin Classics Diamond Anniversary six world-class designers and architects were given free reign to design a brand new Anniversary Edition of their favourite Penguin Classics. So far Madame Bovary (designed by Manolo Blahnik), Tender is the Night (designed by Sam Taylor-wood) and Lady Chatterley’s Lover (designed by Paul Smith) are sold out. At the time of writing this post, Crime & Punishment designed by Fuel and The Idiot designed by the architect Ron Arad were still available to buy.

I’m a bit confused. Penguin claims that “six world-class designers and architects” were involved, but there are only 5 books available. Does Fuel count as two, or is there another book that has not, as yet, been disclosed?

Anyway, if you want one of the remaining Penguin Limited Edition Classics, you better get your credit card out before they all sell out!
