Shelves too nice to put things on. I really love the stacked cubist style QUODS shelving system by Combinaat. It’s such a great looking object in itself, that I fear placing items on it’s shelves will ruin it’s aesthetic. I guess that’s probably not such a great feature for a set of shelves, but I don’t care, I still want them.

Don’t Worry, I haven’t developed a soup fetish! I know I posted about another design soup bowl the other day, and now I’m about to do it again, but it’s just a coincidence! It seems we’re on the edge of a new trend for designer soup bowls. And the Topography Soup Plate by Kyouei Design is a corker! Plus the wonderfully disjointed english blurb they have on the site is like somekind of crazy beat poetry:
please pour the soup into this plate. mountain range and a lake are completed. and the bottom of a lake appears when you eat the soup. please enjoy the taste, the landscape and topography of the plate. when you use it as a salad dish, it becomes a forest. you can create a landscape on your very own table.

I don’t like rugs. In general, I’m not that fussed on rugs, but Floor To Heaven are doing some really interesting stuff with textures that I can’t help but love. They’ve crafted rugs that resemble the sand ridges on a wind-swept beach, the swirl of running water, and a whole other range of natural patterns and variations.

Brilliantly simple design.I really love the work that Pottinger and Cole are coming out with. The ‘Twiggy Coat Stand’ and ‘Hanger Chair’ are just classic examples of simple interesting design at it’s best.

A bowl that makes you want to eat soup every day! The ‘Impression Crockery’ by Benjamin Hubert is a soupbowl and spoon set that’s formed from a single surface, with a soft impression forming the bowl and spoon holder. It’s such a beautiful design that it makes me want to try out a bunch of different coloured soups to try different colour combinations.

Old sacks are the new chic. I really like the idea behind these French Sac Cushions from Random Retail. Having seen the designs on an old french sack whilst on a jaunt around charity shops, car boots etc, the designer decided to reproduce it. By printing on washed calico so they already look a little old, it gives the rest of us a chance to own a little bit of rustic french chic design.

Furniture for comic book aficionados. Opus Interiors have some interesting storage drawer furniture covered in the artwork of Guido Crepax. Hugely influential in the development of European comic art, it seems his style is now escaping the smaller world of comic books into the larger arena of interiors.

“Take your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape!” I love Planet Of The Apes. I mean, really love it. Which is why I’ve spent most of the weekend holed up on the sofa. You see, I found an entire animated cartoon series of Escape From Planet Of The Apes hosted on Open FLV (you can download it if you want too!)
This 70’s cartoon version of the Planet Of The Apes franchise was made before I was even born, but it’s one of the most stylish cartoons I’ve ever seen. The retro style graphics are great, with a series of random trippy static drawings dumped in between the animated action to express the character’s emotions. Except it doesn’t; it just makes them look like they’re experiencing some horrific LSD flashbacks.
If you like Planet Of The Apes, or you’re just into retro style graphics, check out Escape From Planet Of The Apes on Open FLV.
