Don’t Fart On My Heart. June 27, 2007

Ebony Bones Video By TEAR

Great video work from London based creative team. The guys from TEAR let me know about the award winning video they created for the buzz generating artist Ebony Bones. TEAR is the alias representing designer George Tsioutsias and artist Theo Michael, and the video they’ve created for the charmingly titled single ‘Don’t Fart On My Heart’ is a strikingly visual collection of scribbles and random stuff (just what I like.)

You can see the video on YouTube, or get a better quality version on TEAR’s website.

A Light’s Drawing. June 26, 2007

A Light's Drawing by Sandra Bautista

I want all of this stuff. I don’t have anything else to say. I just want all of the “A Light’s Drawing” stuff by Sandra Bautista’s.

Everyday light draws for us… but we never realized… The graphics on the whole set come from the real shadow so that all objects are related to each other and when using it you will discover all of them.

Fuchs & Funke Polygon Chair.

Fuchs & Funke Polygon Chair

I like yellow things. I’m not ashamed to admit it. If it’s yellow, and has an element of design to it, the chances are that I’ll probably want whatever it is. A good example of this would be Fuchs & Funke’s Polygon Chair. It may look like the offspring of a cement mixer and a wheelbarrow, but it’s yellow, and therefore I want one.

Shoot Factory. June 25, 2007

Photoshoot location from Shootfactory

You live in a dirty, cramped, ugly, little hole… compared to the properties on the books of ShootFactory. Ever wondered where people find those amazing locations for all the photoshoots you see? Well, businesses like ShootFactory can help; ShootFactory is a full-service location agency, representing UK and international properties, studios and venues for TV, film, photo shoots, product launches and events.

Looking through the properties on their website is simultaneously inspiring, and deeply depressing. See for yourself at ShootFactory.

Domestic Violence Is The New Black. June 21, 2007

Home Sweet Home by Jule Jenckel

Yeah, yeah, yeah, before anyone emails me… I’m aware that domestic violence isn’t a fashion statement or whatever, so don’t bother. I just thought I’d point out Jule Jenckel’s Home Sweet Home ring from the Charming Disaster exhibition held by the students on Platform 11, one of six studios that collectively make up the Royal College of Art’s acclaimed Design Products department headed by Ron Arad.

Based on the understanding that every item can be used as a weapon, here the focus is on the domestic environment and the violence which can occur between a couple.

A wedding ring whose shape has changed into a knuckle-duster and leaves an apology on the victim`s face. The mark on the cheek says “I didn`t mean it” in reverse and can be read when the victim looks at his or herself in the mirror.

With such controversial designs. Jule Jenckel looks like someone we might be hearing more from in the future.

Fambuena Lighting.

Fambuena

More lighting porn. When visiting the Fambuena website, it took me a few minutes to realise that I was looking at the right website. The product photography looks like a fashion shoot, so you’re distracted by the clothes and model’s poses, but if you stay focused you may just notice the sexy lighting designs that the company produces.

Stay focused while visiting Fambuena.

This Is Where He Keeps The Heads.

Barnaby Barford

Creepy nik-naks for your mantelpiece. I think I may have mentioned Barnaby Barford before in relation to the products he’s designed for Thorsten Van Elten (who, by the way, have a massive clearance sale coming up - visit the website for details), but I thought I’d mention his weird sideline work.

Barford has a little sideline going in creepy surreal ceramic figurines. He makes one-off ceramic pieces made from existing mass-manufactured or antique ceramics. The figurines are cut and re-stuck together in a new and slightly disrupted way. With pieces like This is where he keeps the heads, The Chav Nativity and Aaaaaaaaagggggghhhhhhh you’re definitely getting something a little different from your average granny’s ballerina ceramic figures.

Mikado by Luzifer. June 18, 2007

Mikado by Luzifer

The Devil always has the best lighting. Despite the slightly satanic sounding name, Luzifer aren’t evil at all. They’re producing some amazing lighting products, such as the Mikado.

Their website has some amazing photography of the lighting in great interior spaces. Essentially it’s like porn to me. High-quality filthy lighting porn. Go and check it out at Luzifer.

díez + díez diseño.

Timida by díez + díez diseño

Patience is a virtue. If you can endure the frustration of their incredibly awful website, díez + díez have come up with some great ideas. Some beautiful, some surreal, but always interesting. Anyone who designs a teacup with the handle, confusingly, on the inside, is worth a look.

When Is A Door, Not A Door?

Ajar by Wis Design

I really, really want this door. I can’t say I’ve ever found a door particularly amusing before, but the Ajar door design by Wis Design hits the spot.

An outer door which appears to be slightly opened. A door that always welcomes you inside, but still makes sure you’re safe and sound behind it.

Apparently, it’s available from Polardörren, but I couldn’t find it on their site. However, there are some other interesting doors on there so its worth a look anyway.
