The Wurstminster Dog Show. February 14, 2007

It’s even better than paintings of dogs playing poker. Jason from The Wurst Gallery emailled me to tell me about an exhibition they currently have running called The Wurstminster Dog Show. The show consists of 142 international artists representing 142 different dog breeds in their own unique way.
Ranging from simple afghan hound abstractions by Eleanor Grosch to brussels griffon psychadelia by Arbito, there are styles to suit everybody’s tastes.
A lot of these modern works remind me of the cat paintings of Louis Wain. Louis Wain went mad in later life, and his cat paintings gradually became more and more abstracted as his schizophrenia advanced. If you’ve got 3 minutes, check out this YouTube Video on the subject.
I’m not suggesting that the artists involved in The Wurstminster Dog Show are all mental, by the way. But you never know!
