Eamo

Do you come from a land down under? Where women glow and men plunder? Australian illustrator Eamo does! Fantastic work, full of Aussie references including Aboriginies and the mighty Steve Irwin.

Apologies for the Men At Work ‘Down Under’ lyrics at the beginning. Embarrassingly, I think it’s one of the coolest songs ever written.

Go and check out Eamo’s work.

White Picket Fences.

Picket Fence by Boiler Design Office

Fence off your wires. Boiler Design Office have come up with a great little idea for running and hiding wires around the home. By giving your skirting boards a Picket Fence, you can hide the wires behind.

Maybe the picket fence theme has a more post-modern quirky resonsnace in the US than Europe, but it’s still an interesting solution to the problem of messy wiring around the modern home.

Emiko Oki’s Pint Glass Series.

Emiko Oki's Pint Glass Series

Fancy a pint? I’ve always loved the Ceramic Half-Pint Mugs from Innermost, so Emiko Oki’s Pint Glass Series floats my boat too.

Oki has taken the classic British pint glass form and converted them to a number of different uses, from ashtray to wine glass. A quirky modern take on a classic design form.

Paolo Casalis.

Paolo Casalis

Up & coming Italian designer. I really love the simplistic idea behind the Ribalta Project by Paolo Casalis. A chair with a fold out leg rest that doesn’t detract from the original chair design at all. Great work.

Paolo has just been short-listed for his entry in the Designboom Fiat 500 Competition, so he’s someone worth keeping an eye on for the future. Well done Paolo!

Update: Paolo has asked me to also mention that the Ribalta Project was made in partnership with the architect Luca Di Matto. Apologies to Luca Di Matto for initially neglecting to mention him.

M/M Paris

Batter your bandwidth with beauty. It takes a little while to load, as it’s an 8mb PDF file, but you’ve got to check out the M/M Paris Posters by the god-like design team of Michael Amzalag & Mathias Augustyniak aka M/M Paris.

It’s beautiful work, and, apparently, they now take credit cards. So it looks like Mr. Visa might have to get me some of ‘The Alphabet’ pieces.

Kinky Form Chair.

Kinky Form Chair

Bring on the Kinky stuff! Last year, I loved the Kinky Form tables, this year, it’s the Kinky Form Chair. It’s a beautiful solid black chair with golden illustrations by Nigel Dennis aka Electric Heat. Very nice indeed.

Deadgood Hanger.

Dead good Hanger

Simple & stylish. That’s all you need from a coat hanger really, isn’t it? That’s why I love the Deadgood hanger from Deadgood. A quirky modern twist on a familiar shape.

Check out more great stuff from Deadgood.

The Wurstminster Dog Show. February 14, 2007

The Wurstminster Dog Show

It’s even better than paintings of dogs playing poker. Jason from The Wurst Gallery emailled me to tell me about an exhibition they currently have running called The Wurstminster Dog Show. The show consists of 142 international artists representing 142 different dog breeds in their own unique way.

Ranging from simple afghan hound abstractions by Eleanor Grosch to brussels griffon psychadelia by Arbito, there are styles to suit everybody’s tastes.

A lot of these modern works remind me of the cat paintings of Louis Wain. Louis Wain went mad in later life, and his cat paintings gradually became more and more abstracted as his schizophrenia advanced. If you’ve got 3 minutes, check out this YouTube Video on the subject.

I’m not suggesting that the artists involved in The Wurstminster Dog Show are all mental, by the way. But you never know!

Broberg & Ridderstråle Design & Architecture.

Broberg & Ridderstråle Design & Architecture

More unlinkable design goodness! I really like the work by Broberg & RidderstrÃ¥le Design & Architecture. Coats with hoods (Hood Chair), tables with bird’s feet (Bird), lampshades placed out in the snow (Gulliver); I could link to all these wonderful things if the website wasn’t made in flash. That really gets on my nerves, and I’m sure it does a dis-service to the designer in terms of missing out on exposure.

You’ll just have to go and check it out for yourselves at their website.

Damien Hirst Wallpaper. February 13, 2007

Damien Hirst Wallpaper

Do you have the work of a famous artist on your wall? Most artist’s work which can be placed on walls come in the form of paintings, but now, providing you can afford to pay £1,000.00 a roll, you can cover your walls in Damien Hirst’s Wallpaper from Other Criteria.

Expensive, but cheaper than buying one of his artworks!
