Random Egg Things. I have no idea what Wok Media do, or what the broken eggshell type things on their website are, but it’s interesting. I like the idea of an objects real design being hidden, and only truly seen when the item is destroyed.

“It’s suppossed to be like that.” I can just imagine having to explain to people that the Vase of Phases by Studio Dror is suppossed to appear broken. I just love the idea of a vase being smashed by design.

Get Naked & Angry. Everybody probably already knows about Naked & Angry, but if you don’t know, anyone can go to Naked & Angry and submit a pattern design to be voted on by other Naked & Angry users. The highest scoring designs will be manufactured and products will be created inspired by the patterns. Usually the patterns are used to create ties, but they’ve started creating hand-screened wallpapers. Heavenly Scales and Autumn leaves are both great examples.

Shock! Wall stickers can be cool! I’ve not really been into the over-hyped wall stickers trend that’s been doing the rounds for the last several months, but these Wall Stickers have caught my eye. I think I like it because it’s similar to an idea used on the walls of the home of Designer Sietze Kalkwijk. It’s definitely a cool & quirky idea.

Bold, typographic rugs. Most rug designs are fairly wishy-washy. They’re often bland abstract designs made up of pretty colours, so it’s really refreshing to see the strongly graphic designs from Davi Delfin for DAC (Distribuidora de Alfombras Contemporaneas). Definitely one of only a handful of rugs I would consider owning.

I found some vintage wallpaper. I bought an old house that I’m currently renovating, and whilst having a clean out I stubbled on a role of vintage wallpaper. Taking an educated address, it’s got to be 50 years old.
I’ve been looking around vinatge wallpaper sites like 5QM to see if I can identify it, but if anyone else knows anything about wallpapers that might be able to help me out, please contact me.

If you like other-worldy haunting music, check out Jóhann Jóhannsson. Jóhann Jóhannsson has created an album titled IBM 1401, a User´s Manual. The story behind the album is quite touching. Jóhann’s father was an engineer on a very early IBM 1401 computer, and learned of an obscure method of making music on this computer - a purpose for which this business machine was not at all designed. When the computer was taken out of service in 1971, it was given a little farewell ceremony, almost a funeral, when its melodies were played for one last time. This “performance” was documented on tape along with recordings of the sound of the machine in operation. Jóhann Jóhannsson’s album is based on those 30 year old recordings of the IBM 1401 computer.
Check the video on YouTube for the song Sun’s Gone Dim, & The Sky’s Turned Black to get a taste of this hauntingly soulful music.
