Mrs. Pink declares it a success! A couple of FatBoys I bought have been a huge success in my home. For those unaware of FatBoys, they’re basically amazingly huge bean bags which are almost as large as bed matresses. Anyway, they’ve been given a rave review from our cat Mrs. Pink, who has decided to take up residence on one full-time.
Check out the FatBoy.

If I was a Bond Villain… I’d sit on the cold stainless steel Alaska Chair by Cattelani Italia. The Villain Chair from Suck UK is too obvious a choice for a villain like me.
All I need to do now is pick out a designer Lair in which to conceive my evil plans for world domination.

It’s so hard to choose a sofa. I’ve been looking for a sofa for months now. I’m stuck between something really clean and minimal, or going for something really comfy (which in my mind, always means scrufffy and dishevelled as well). If you’re looking for clean and elegant, you’ve got to consider the Bernard range of sofas and armchairs by Simon Pengelly for Modus Furniture.
I’m still undecided though. Can you believe I’ll spend more time choosing a sofa, then I would choosing a car or a house!!

I love it when cheap stuff looks expensive. Enpieza are a group of young spanish designers who have only been collaborating for the last six months. They recently launched their first collection at Habitat Valencia Forward including an amazing chandelier made from bic pens (photo, photo). Considering it’s made from cheap, disposable everyday items, they’ve made something elegante and beautiful.

Air Traffic Visualisations. These air traffic visualisations are interesting, and beautiful too. According to the blurb…
The following flight pattern visualizations are the result of experiments leading to the project Celestial Mechanics by Scott Hessels and Gabriel Dunne. FAA data was parsed and plotted using the Processing programming environment.
See the visualisations.

Freaking out the rich folks. I really like the Dipped Silver idea from Adrien Rovero. He’s basically taken existing silver pieces and them dipped into liquid rubber. The contrast of the reflective silver metal against the matt red rubber makes for an interesting quirky look. Plus, I’m sure there are some rich folks out there that would be horrified at this, so that’s got to be good, hasn’t it?

Not all bicycles have to look like engine-less motorbikes, you know. I’ve got a real problem with the fact that the majority of bikes you can buy these days look awful. They seem to have a million springs, and resemble engine-less motorbikes. Now, I’m sure thats fine for kids, but for an adult that want’s a stylish simple bike, there’s not a lot of choice.
You can roll up and take your chances on the lottery of getting one of the limited number of Alta bikes which are available. Or, perhaps something uber-designer and expensive like the MN range by Marc Newson for Biomega (by the way, Biomega are the worst company in the world in terms of service. Seriously. They’re horrific. I’m saving an absolute public shredding of this company for a later date, in the hope that they may be able to redeem themselves in some way soon - but I highly doubt it. I’m getting angry even thinking about them.)
Anyway, if you read any of the other design blogs out there, you’ll have seen the Trio Bike already. Apart from the stupid “peace sign” logo, the bike is simple and stylish, and won’t make you look like a dirt-bike rider.
Go and check it out at Trio Bike.

Nikes as worn by Prince Charles. Maybe I’m getting old, but I really want some of these Tweed Nikes. All I need then is a nice cardigan, pipe and easy chair, and I can rock the cool grampa look.
It’s guaranteed, I’ll never be able to find these in the real world. Maybe somebody will send me some from Christmas (UK size 8.5 or 9 - just in case Santa Claus is a reader of Things of Random Coolness).

A good opportunity for a double entendre. Fancy a post-modern bust to display in your home, then you’re in luck. There are loads of great ones by cool designers. The lastest, the Che Trooper by Urban Medium is very stylish, but if you’ve got the need for a glow-in-the-dark one (hey! who hasn’t?), check out Frank Kozik’s Bird is The Word Mao Bust available from Kid Robot.

More poster love! I really love this Poster by Glyn Smith. Very Fillmore era style. Speaking of which, go and check out a bunch of the original Fillmore Posters, every single one of them an absolute beauty. Although, if we’re going back into the past, go and checkout the work of Alphonse Mucha as well, who, in my opinion, has got to be the original seed for this style of design.
